The Parkhead bulletin indicates that the keeper would also contemplate the transfer of David de Gea to Celtic, with Chris Mepham also on the agenda
Brendan Rodgers is seeking to establish a strong foundation this summer by prioritising the acquisition of defensive reinforcements and a new custodian.
David de Gea would be inclined to contemplate a surprise transfer to Celtic this summer, as the club has the assurance of participating in the Champions League next season.
Andy Walker, a former Parkhead idol, maintains that the prospect of a transfer to the Scottish Premiership champions would “energise” the former Manchester United custodian. The Spanish custodian has been absent from the game for a year after declining to contract with a club following his departure from Old Trafford. In order to preserve his fitness, he has been training with English non-league team Altrincham FC.
Walker believes that the 33-year-old could be the ideal candidate for the role of No. 1 at Celtic Park, as Brendan Rodgers is currently in search of a replacement for Joe Hart, who has retired. He stated on the Go Radio Football Show that Celtic has the ability to offer any player the Champions League, and he is currently out of contract. This is an attraction for numerous participants.
I am aware that De Gea has earned exorbitant quantities of money throughout his career; however, it is possible that his current status as an unrestricted free agent will prove advantageous to all parties. I would not be opposed to Celtic making a significant acquisition, such as De Gea, who is known for his name and would likely pique the interest of fans.
Although De Gea may be a dream bargain for many punters, he is not the sole custodian who has been associated with Celtic. Peter Vindahl Jensen, a member of Sparta Prague, is considered a significant target.
Celtic are currently in discussions with the Czech team regarding the acquisition of the Danish custodian, who only recently concluded a permanent transfer from Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar in March, according to Football Scotland. According to the report, Rodgers, the manager, is an enthusiastic admirer of the 6’5″ custodian.
Sparta is reportedly “reluctant to part company” with the 26-year-old Vindahl Jensen, who is currently under contract in the Czech capital on a multi-year agreement. The club is reportedly holding out for a substantial seven-figure fee for the former Denmark U21 international.
Celtic are not exclusively targeting goalkeepers; they are also reportedly interested in Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham. In that time frame, the 26-year-old has encountered difficulty in securing a consistent position in the first squad. Last season, he was limited to a mere 10 Premier League appearances.
The Wales international has been identified by Brendan Rodgers as a prospective target to enhance his defensive options, according to the Daily Mail. However, the Hoops have not yet made an official approach. The report also indicates that Bournemouth will be seeking approximately £8 million for the player, who is currently in the final year of his contract at the Vitality Stadium.
