Four options are evaluated and ranked to ease the tension that has defined the season surrounding Celtic and the growing transfer crisis.
Instead of decreasing, the tension Celtic supporters felt before the transfer window opened, among a fan base desperate to sign salvation, is growing.
To be clear, there is a persistent feeling that more needs to be done, and it isn’t just found on social media, in club forums, or in local drinking holes around the nation. Four quality additions are desperately needed, as Brendan Rodgers has repeatedly emphasized. Everyone with a stake in the Premiership champions believes more needs to be done, even though it’s known that £3 million winger Nicolas Kuhn matches that description.
In addition to a striker, Rodgers has been eager to bring in a long-term Joe Hart replacement. But, the most urgent addition of all may be a legitimate candidate to share playing time with current left-back Greg Taylor. Prior to the Scotland international pulling up lame and now expected to miss some time, that requirement was critical. Although Rodgers acknowledges that Celtic fans have good reason to be skeptical of his signings, he maintains that he will not hurry the hunt for excellence. It’s difficult to argue against the fact that a new left-back is now absolutely necessary. Record Sport has the final say regarding the available options.
The substitution made from within the danger
And the key word here is risk. Stress levels would be lower if there was a ready-made substitute. Taylor’s backup is Alexandro Bernabei, a former Lanus player who hasn’t shown he can be a trustworthy backup. In his eighteen months in Glasgow, the 23-year-old has shown flashes, primarily in attacking capacities, but he doesn’t seem to have the physicality or the defensive discipline to be a regular starter for Celtic.
What else is there that Rodgers can do to avoid having to sign a new left-back before Thursday of next week? The season’s breakout player, Liam Scales, may move up one spot to start in Taylor’s place. That would enable Maik Nawrocki, who costs £4.3 million, and star defender Cameron Carter-Vickers to reunite for the first time since their 3-1 victory at Pittodrie. Although Mitchel Frame, who can play a variety of positions on the left, is expected to start for Parkhead in the future, he is still considered a long shot for a team in a real title fight. After making an impression in Austria, Matthew Anderson has returned to Admira Wacker for the second half of the season on loan. There aren’t many internal possibilities.
A long-term fix or a loan saver?
This might have been Owen Beck, the rising star from Liverpool, prior to seven minutes of pouring rain against Bournemouth on the English south coast. The Dundee loan revelation will probably stay on the signing list through the summer, but for the remainder of the season, he is only allowed to play for the Dark Blues or his parent club.
The hype surrounding the Estoril wing-back has cooled recently, but Tiago Araujo was the hot name to sign a long-term contract with Celtic. Araujo, who attended the same prestigious academy as Paulo Bernardo and Jota, is probably going to stay where he is after taking a chance on himself and leaving the Benfica academy eighteen months ago.or a long-term fix
Who’s free now?
A number of left-backs are nearing the end of their contracts, whether they are Mr. Right Now or a long-term player. There are possibilities, including a young Championship star or a seasoned Premier League player. Since the unfortunate arrival of Jonjoe Kenny during the disastrous 20019–20 season, Celtic has not signed a full-back on loan. However, the necessity of a temporary solution might need to be reconsidered.
