EVERTON UPDATE FOR LUTON CUP TIE

André Gomes has suffered a calf injury and will miss Everton’s FA Cup fourth round clash with Luton Town.

Seamus Coleman and Abdoulaye Doucoure (both hamstring) are also set to miss Saturday’s tie at Goodison Park.

Ashley Young – who has been out for the Blues’ past eight games after being forced off during the 2-0 home win over Chelsea in December – is unlikely to be available but is nearing a return to full fitness, having completed 75 minutes of the Under-21s’ 2-1 win over Benfica on Wednesday night.

Speaking in Thursday’s pre-match press conference at Finch Farm, manager Sean Dyche said: “Unfortunately, we’ve lost André, so we’re waiting on news on how long he’ll be out – but very unlikely for this weekend.

“Seamus probably not [available] for this weekend, Youngy got through 75 minutes last night which was good news but probably not for the weekend.

“Then, obviously, Doucs is a bit longer-term.

“Unfortunately, the games programme [in December] eventually, probably – you can’t actually define it for sure – these injuries often seem to be after a heavy games schedule. That’s the way it goes.

“They’ve been playing well for us recently but they are the challenges when the schedule hits you pretty hard over the Christmas period and your working with a pretty skinny squad numbers-wise.

“We’ll work with what we’ve got and continue to keep pushing forward.”

Dele, meanwhile, has undergone surgery to repair a setback in his recovery from a groin injury.

Dyche added: “There was a bit of a debate as to whether to [operate] or not, which is why it took some time, so now he’ll be recovering from that.

“There are no timescales at this time because, obviously, he’s had a lot on and we’re waiting for it to develop. The early signs are good.
