Duke guard Tyrese Proctor is expected to return this season despite suffering a left knee injury during Tuesday night’s game, according to coach Jon Scheyer.

Speaking on his radio show Wednesday, Scheyer revealed that imaging confirmed Proctor sustained a bone bruise but no structural damage. His recovery will depend on pain tolerance, movement, and strengthening, and while there’s no exact timeline, Scheyer emphasized that Proctor will return.

The injury occurred when Proctor’s left leg buckled as he backpedaled to defend a Miami fast break. He left the court in visible discomfort with 36.3 seconds left in the first half and did not return, finishing with seven points in 14 minutes. Despite his exit, Duke secured a dominant 97-60 victory. Freshman Isaiah Evans replaced him in the second half.

A three-year starter under Scheyer, Proctor has played 87 games for Duke, averaging 11.8 points this season—third on the team behind Cooper Flagg (19.4) and Kon Knueppel (13.5). He also leads the Blue Devils with 64 three-pointers. Scheyer praised Proctor’s impact, noting his 79-21 record as a player and his significant role on the team.

Duke is also missing reserve Maliq Brown, who dislocated his shoulder on Feb. 17 against Virginia but is expected to return. The Blue Devils, currently 25-3 overall and leading the ACC at 16-1, have three conference games left before the ACC tournament begins on March 13. As a probable No. 1 seed, Duke is a strong national title contender, set to start NCAA tournament play on March 20 or 21.
