Duke During the ACC game at Miami, Duke basketball’s starting guard is injured. What we understand
Late in the first half on Tuesday night’s 97-60 ACC victory over Miami, Duke’s Tyrese Proctor sustained a left knee injury.
Proctor did not return for the second half after limping to the locker room. Duke coach Jon Scheyer stated, “We need to get him back, get X-rays, get an MRI.”
He was struck in the leg. That’s all I know about it. And we’ll get him examined and cared for.
According to Scheyer, Proctor will return to Durham with the team to have his injuries evaluated there. Using crutches and his left leg to support his weight, Proctor exited the arena. The 6-5 junior, who started every game for the Blue Devils (25-3, 16-1 ACC) this season, was defending the basket when Divine Ugochukwu of Miami made a layup.
It seemed like the two players were banging knees. However, with 36 seconds left in the first half, Proctor’s knee gave way, causing him to express agony right away and walk off the field.
Duke led the last-place Hurricanes (6-21, 2-14 ACC) 47-32 at the break after Proctor scored seven points in the first half. This season, Proctor has made 40.9% of his 3-point attempts and averages 12 points a game. Earlier in the Miami game, he scored more than 1,000 points in his career.
Scheyer remarked, “Happy for Tyrese getting his 1,000th point.” “I am aware that he didn’t want to receive it in this way.” To open the second half, Proctor was replaced by rookie guard Isaiah Evans, who had previously scored 16 points in the first half. Evans has earned greater playing time moving forward, whether or not Proctor is available, according to Scheyer.
With what Isaiah has done, it was obvious,” Scheyer remarked. “That’s clear. He has made a name for himself in that capacity and will continue to do so.
With Maliq Brown missing his second straight game due to a dislocated shoulder, the Blue Devils are now dealing with two ailments. During Duke’s 80-62 victory over Virginia on February 17, the 6-9 junior forward sustained an injury.
When Duke defeated Illinois 110-67 at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, Brown joined the Blue Devils in Miami, dressed in street clothes much like he did in New York. Scheyer had previously stated that Brown would be out for several weeks as his injury healed.
