Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, has made remarks regarding the hefty price the Bhoys paid to get Adam Idah back to the team for good.

The Ireland international makes a comeback for a total of £9.5 million, add-ons included. As part of the deal, his previous team, Norwich City, also kept a 15% sell-on clause.

It’s interesting to note that other teams gain from the agreement besides the Canaries. With the transfer being complete, College Corinthians of Ireland have made just under £700,000; however, the money will be handed out gradually.

Idah has earned his transfer to the current Scottish Premiership champions, despite the fine print taking centre stage in the headlines. His nine goals in 19 loan games played a crucial role in the Bhoys’ victory in the domestic double.

Prior to Celtic’s Premier Sports Cup match against Hibernian this weekend, Rodgers addressed the disputed amount and expressed his delight about the arrival during his pre-match news conference.

In response to a query about Idah’s coming, Rodgers said [Celtic FC YouTube]: Like magic! People talk about transfer fees and other things, and this person paid that last year, so I’m overjoyed. I’m thrilled for him because I believe he has a tonne of potential. He demonstrated it throughout the previous season, and because I was aware of his talent, this signing made me feel the most at ease.

“The mindset of a player is something you never know in recruitment, and you truly don’t know until you get in.

I think what I’ve seen from him in my time here is that he had proven to me that he has that big-game mentality, big-club mentality, so I wanted to do everything I can and I thank the board for reaching out and getting Adam here because I think that over the next two to three years, he can really flourish and show all the quality that he has.

“He’s in an environment where he’ll improve; he’s shown that he can deal with pressure and play big moments, and I’m really excited for him and the Celtic supporters and obviously for the team that we’ve got someone back that can really help us be successful going forward.”
