Last night, Lewis Ferguson led his team to a significant Serie A victory.

After playing his first game in more than a month and leading Bologna to a historic 2-1 victory against AC Milan in Serie A last night, Scotland midfielder Lewis Ferguson has given Steve Clarke a significant injury boost.

Since suffering a hamstring injury early in the Champions League match against Sporting CP in January, the former Aberdeen midfielder had not started a match for the Rossoblù.

The injury came as a shock to Ferguson, who had been out for more than seven months following surgery for a ruptured ACL last year, when the 25-year-old was sent off the field after just ten minutes of last month’s European match.

Ferguson, however, was cleared to start the massive Serie A match against AC Milan last night after making sporadic appearances off the bench. Rafael Leao’s opening goal was neutralized by goals from Santiago Castro (48) and Dan NDoye (82) in the second half on a crucial night at the Stadio Renata Dall’Ara.

With the win, Bologna jumps ahead of AC Milan in the standings and takes sixth place, three points ahead of the San Siro team in the race for European qualifying.

Ferguson appeared back to his best during his time on the field, hitting 84% of his passes accurately and creating the most chances (3) in the match. The 25-year-old played 72 minutes of the match before being substituted by Tommaso Pobega for the closing moments.

With the Tartan Army management already juggling a number of fitness issues ahead of next month’s camp, his participation in the match will be great news to Scotland manager Clarke ahead of the Nations League playoff match against Greece on March 20.
