Arsenal
News about Arsenal: After their match against Liverpool, the Gunners could still complete the transfer.
Although the Gunners’ January transfer window closed about a week ago, Mikel Arteta’s team may still be looking to trade Marquinhos, meaning Arsenal’s transfer business may not be finished yet.
Arsenal can easily relax into their week with seven days between their Premier League encounter against West Ham and their victory over Liverpool.
With three points against the Reds, the Gunners closed the gap on their rivals by two points and relished the opportunity. Some criticized their celebrations, questioning the depth of their happiness. These people included Richard Keys, Jamie Carragher, and Gary Neville.
Nevertheless, after their 3-1 victory, Mikel Arteta and company will feel confident in the title fight once more. With Arsenal finishing the year stumbling due to bad form, the Spaniard will be hoping to use the outcome as a springboard.
With the Champions League set to resume soon, the north London team will be fully focused on winning silverware in the Premier League. Below, Mirror Football looks at some of the most recent information to come out of the Emirates Stadium.
Marquinhos’ motion
On Thursday, the transfer market closed in a conventional manner as no players arrived to bolster Arsenal’s depth. It seems like one was left open to make one more move, though.
In January, Marquinhos, who had been loaned to Nantes, was called back to his home country of Brazil. The 20-year-old is presently competing for his nation in an Olympic qualification event to secure a spot in Paris this summer.
Marquinhos, though, might be content to stay in South America given the games in Venezuela. Sport Witness has received reports from Brazil indicating that negotiations with Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz have expedited the process.
But since the qualifying competition doesn’t complete until February 11th, it might take some time before anything is confirmed. Although Brazil’s transfer window doesn’t end until March, there is still plenty of time to make a deal—this one has already been made.
Arsenal is scheduled to pay
Although the Gunners’ victory over Liverpool on Sunday seemed to have come at a price, they still seemed to enjoy it. A fee of precisely £25,000.
Six of Arteta’s players—Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel, Jakub Kiwior, Declan Rice, and Kai Havertz—were booked at the Emirates. That is sufficient to start the FA fine.
Jurgen Klopp was not happy with the refereeing in the match, even though Ibrahima Konate was sent off for two yellow cards despite Arsenal’s barrage of bookings. “A lot of things were against of us today,” he stated
I received a red card from this referee against Man City for a wrestling match between Bernardo Silva and Mohamed Salah. Same thing happened to [Diogo] Jota today, although he avoided receiving a red card.
“The decision to hold [Kai] Havertz on Konate for the first yellow card is ridiculous. After Havertz is knocked down, Konate is given a yellow card by the referee. Darwin Nunez is treated similarly by Gabriel Magalhaes, who doesn’t give a yellow card.”
Martin Odegaard responds
The captain of Arsenal responded to those who were critical of his team’s Sunday celebrations. Particularly Odegaard received criticism for snapping a picture of the club’s photographer, but he didn’t say sorry for savoring the occasion.
“No, I believe everyone who loves football and understands football knows how much it means to win this game,” Odegaard remarked. And when can you celebrate if you’re not permitted to celebrate when you win?
“We shall remain modest because we are pleased. Naturally, we always desire to be at the top after spending so much of the previous season there.
