It was the first playoff win for the Washington Commanders in 19 years. They will make their first appearance in the NFC Championship Game since the 1991 season if they win again.

“It’s a blessing to be able to play football in January,” stated Jonathan Allen, a defensive tackle for Washington. “We understand that. Our attention is on what needs to be done in order to move on to the following week. … “We’re thrilled, but we’re not happy.”

The Commanders need to defeat the Detroit Lions in a Divisional Round game on Saturday at 7 p.m. CST in order to advance to the following week. The game will be broadcast on FOX.

Washington defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23–20, becoming the only visiting team to win on Wild-Card Weekend and the lowest-seeded club still in the NFL playoffs. On the final snap of the game, the Commanders kicked the game-winning field goal.

The last five games have been won by Washington. After the opponent missed a field goal attempt on the last play of the fourth quarter, the Commanders recorded an overtime victory, blocked a two-point convert with no time remaining in another, and scored winning touchdowns with six and three seconds to win two of the games.

Detroit holds the conference’s top seed, which comes with a first-round bye for the Lions, while Washington gets the sixth seed in the NFC. Daron Payne, the defensive tackle for the Commanders, stated, “We played a lot of tough games to the end here.” “I believe we are capable of engaging in a full-on battle with anyone.” We are aware of what it takes to win.

Allen and Payne, who were teammates at Alabama before joining Washington, are expected to play important roles on Saturday night when the Commanders take on the highest-scoring team in the NFL. Allen remarked, “I think it comes down to just re-creating a new line of scrimmage and dominating the line of scrimmage for me and the defensive line.

” Our objective heading into the game will be that. With 37 touchdown passes this season, Lions quarterback Jared Goff leads the NFC in passing efficiency. Payne and Allen want to take the Detroit quarterback off his game.

“The objective is internal pressure,” Allen stated. “It’s going to come down to moving him off his spot and possibly forcing him to go to a second read if you can get internal pressure.”

In their first trip to the conference title game since the 1991 season, Detroit lost to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 last season. Washington defeated Detroit 41-10 on January 12, 1992, en route to the Super Bowl, and hasn’t advanced past the Divisional Round since. Detroit is attempting to make its second consecutive appearance in the NFC Championship Game.
