Brendan Rodgers has been busy this week finalising deals with Celtic.

Adam Idah’s departure from Norwich City was officially announced last night, and Hyeokkyu Kwon, a South Korean seeking first-team experience, finalised a loan move to Hibs earlier this week.

And now that the Celtic midfielder has spent just two days at Easter Road, Hibs manager David Grey has revealed how the player has already “really impressed” him.

Gray-loving “excellent” Kwon Hyeokkyu Kwon has struggled to earn consistent playing time since joining Celtic in the summer, but it appears that the Hibs manager has great ambitions for him this year.

“We’ve seen straightaway in the last couple of days on the grass that he’s got really good quality, technical ability, and he’s physical as well,” Grey stated [Daily Record print edition, page 45].

He’s a strong athlete with good ground coverage, and when he went on loan to St Mirren, I was quite impressed with him.

“It goes without saying that Kwon is unavailable for play on the weekends, but he still improves our group dynamic and team cohesiveness, and that’s exactly what we need in a player.

“We saw him playing in the league last season and he was excellent against us, so that’s all part of it. We were able to complete our homework on that.” Although it would be ideal, you don’t always have the choice to use our own players.

“We’re happy to have Kwon here; there was an opportunity to bring him in.”

For the benefit of his Celtic career, Kwon needs to step it up.
The South Korean’s stint with Hibs will be his second loan stint away from Celtic since his summer 2023 more

Stephen Robinson was so delighted with the Celtic midfielder after he made nine appearances for St Mirren last season that he asked to have him back on loan.

But now that he’s at Easter Road, Kwon needs to play well for the capital team this season. This is the ideal chance for the South Korean to demonstrate to Brendan Rodgers his abilities as the Head Coach of the Hoops, given his limited playing time at Celtic.

Sincerely, I hope Kwon succeeds because I think there’s a player there. It is now up to the 23-year-old to demonstrate whether that player is talented enough to succeed at Celtic.
