Bayer Leverkusen look to Celtic Women for new talent as history makers make an impact

As history is being made, Bayer Leverkusen looks to Celtic Women for fresh talent.

It might be simple to lose sight of the fact that other departments within the club are also conducting business during the transfer window, amidst the excitement surrounding the potential additions Brendan Rodgers makes to the Celtic squad this summer.

In addition to preparing some of the young players for the US Summer Tour, the Celtic Academy has been busy signing some of the best players to their first professional contracts.

Elena Sadiku has been working hard at Celtic Women as well, trying to bolster her historic Celtic team from the previous campaign.

Shen Menglu, a winger for Celtics, is leaving the team this summer to join Bayer Leverkusen, therefore Sadiku will need to find a successor.

Leverkusen captures Legendary player for Celtic, Menglu, joined the team in July 2023 and had a major role in the Women’s team’s 40+ wins during the inaugural SWPL season.

Leverkusen Sporting Director Achim Feifel expressed his delight at the acquisition and said that his team has acquired a player with “a lot of tactical flexibility.”

“Despite being a young player, she has already gained a lot of experience in Europe during her stints in Portugal and Scotland,” Feifel stated in reference to Bayer Leverkusen.

“She is a versatile player who excels both offensively and defensively, but especially on the offensive end of the field.”

Menglu all set “to prove my worth”
Shen is an international Chinese player who has won three caps. At the young age of 22, Menglu is starting a new phase in her career, which she says she is eager for. She made her debut on October 29 of last year.

Menglu remarked, “Leverkusen is a big name in football with a great history and great fans,” in reference to the move. I want to watch the best football here.

“I have performed in multiple nations. I want to perform well for Leverkusen and contribute to the team’s high goal total.

Menglu will remain at Leverkusen until 2026 thanks to an agreement she inked with the German team. While we wish her luck in her new endeavour, Sadiku must now locate a substitute for a player who was instrumental in Celtic’s championship victory the previous year.
